Fabrics of the Day
Three cloths we are cutting with today. They change every morning, so come back tomorrow and there will be three more.
Tied by hand in thousands of tiny knots and then dyed, so every white dot is a spot the colour could never reach. Four of today’s on the rail.
Bandhani is tied, never printed. Each dot is a point where the cloth was pinched and bound with thread before it went into the dye pot. A single dupatta can carry tens of thousands of knots, and the women who tie them often keep one fingernail long, to pinch up the cloth.
Pure linen in a bright check, coloured with natural dyes. Cool to wear, creases honestly, and gets softer every single time it is washed.
Linen is one of the few fibres that gets stronger when it is wet rather than weaker, which is why it survives decades of washing. Flax fibres found in a cave in Georgia have been dated to around 30,000 years old, the oldest cloth we know of anywhere.
Stamped by hand from carved teak blocks: rabbits and ferns, one impression at a time, all the way along the length.
Every colour in a hand-block print needs its own carved block, stamped one press at a time. The printer lines each one up by eye using tiny registration dots carved into the block’s corners, which is why the pattern breathes a little instead of marching in a perfect grid.

We come at a time that suits you and take your measurements properly. About twenty minutes, at your door, with your own clothes and mirror to hand.
Your clothes are cut to your measurements, not to a standard size, and stitched in our workroom. Most orders take one to two weeks.
Finished clothes come back to you, pressed and wrapped. If anything needs adjusting, we come again and fix it, at no charge.
